About IAM

History

IAM has evolved over decades to strengthen Michigan’s immunization efforts. Today, the coalition focuses on vaccine equity, access, and community trust.

A Legacy of Immunization Advocacy

In 1994, Michigan learned that immunization rates in the state were the lowest in the nation. In response, a partnership of public and private sector organizations – the Alliance for Immunizations in Michigan (AIM) – was formed to focus on a broad spectrum of immunization issues in Michigan.

Given the low vaccination rates in Michigan at that time, the initial focus of AIM was to emphasize provider education in an effort to reduce missed opportunities to immunize. The AIM coalition’s concerted efforts were integrated into what became known as the AIM Provider Tool Kit, a comprehensive resource for immunization management, patient education, as well as other high-quality information sources.

During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, AIM took a pause. To get it functionally running again, in 2024 the coalition rebranded, becoming the Immunization Alliance of Michigan (IAM). Today, the IAM coalition continues to provide provider and public vaccine materials with a focus on vaccine equity and access.
